Orlando Engel und Wartesäle
A phantasy about androgyny and sexual metamorphosis , inspired by Virginia Woolf: In Virgina Woolf’s fictitious biography “Orlando”, the story of a life is told which begins in the 16th century and stretches up to the year 1928.
The eponymous hero, however, only ages 20 years and changes his gender during the course of the story. Theater Thikwa has borrowed two motives from this novel: Orlando stands for the idea that a person’s sex doesn’t have to be an absolute condition. Moreover, changing gender is linked to the option of escaping death. Angels are such hermaphrodites, with a credit for immortality, endlessly waiting creatures.
